School Notes

  • Cal Coast Academy is a college preparatory private school, serving grades 6-12, accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), approved by the University of California (UC), and certified by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The driving force behind our all-encompassing and distinctive educational program is our founding belief that the gateways to learning must be as diverse as the learners themselves.
  • We are renowned for providing dynamic academics within a small community of dedicated students, faculty, and staff.
  • At Cal Coast Academy, we are collectively devoted to delivering customized learning that meets the individualistic and holistic needs of every student. By removing the traditional "one-size-fits-all" approach to education, Cal Coast Academy is essentially bridging the gap between can`t and can and breaking through barriers that prevent students from reaching their true potential. Instead of a national curriculum for education,Cal Coast Academy believes in providing education as unique as each student`s fingerprint. We also recognize and value the importance of maintaining class size to help promote and augment student success. Our class size of no more than six students per teacher, ensures that our students get the instructional learning that they need as well as elevates student participation and supports our interactive and collegiate learning methodology. The teachers at Cal Coast Academy sway away from the lecture-directed, textbook-driven, antiquated approach to learning. Instead, we allow our students the opportunity to stimulate one another`s powers of thought through coactive learning. Our entire school is dedicated to helping our students embrace their differences, conquer their challenges, devise personal learning strategies, and gain the skills that will enable them to thrive anywhere the future leads them.
  • Some of the students that we serve struggle from mild learning, social, and mental disabilities such as Asbergers, dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, autism, anxiety, and depression. However, Cal Coast Academy does not limit its student population to just those with academic challenges, we also welcome and take-on students who, in the past, may have blatantly refused to go to school due to intense bullying or students who have not succeeded in other private and public schools because their teachers couldn`t adequately individualize their learning experience due to the large class sizes. A handful of our students are training to become professional athletes or models and are traveling the world for competitions and events; therefore, they are not allowed to attend public education because they cannot meet their required "seat time."

Cal Coast Academy ("CCA") is an absolutely fantastic school! After several years in public school, we transferred our son to CCA in 6th grade. He started CCA being two years behind in math and English. Although the public schools in our area are great, they do not have the resources needed for neurodivergent students. Enrolling our son in CCA has been the best decision ever, as the teachers and staff are amazingly accommodating and creative in order to provide an outstanding education to our son with ADHD. He is now doing grade level work, and loves going to school!

Jan Dunning (Principal/Director) is an extraordinary leader and educator. Haile (Office Manager) is welcoming and supportive. Teachers truly understand each student's individual needs. Teachers create a learning environment that fosters a beautiful balance between preparing students for college and career readiness while nurturing social and emotional wellness. Our family is grateful for the education our daughter received at Cal Coast Academy.

My son attends the After school ASSIST program where he completes all of his nightly homework assignments with his teachers before coming home. This program has allowed our family to, once again, enjoy our evenings together because it has eliminated the homework battle.
