Camelot is a small, fully accredited, private school serving grades K-12 in Durham, NC. Camelot's small size and dedicated teaching staff make it possible for students to have a tailor-made educational experience.
While a student's academic progress is our primary concern, providing a safe, nurturing environment that supports social and emotional growth is part of our mission as well.
We seek to develop the whole person.
We have a 27 acre school farm and a Nature Based school program for our youngest students.

Camelot Academy was founded in 1982 by Thelma De Carlo-Glynn, who continues to serve as Director of the school.The teaching methodology used at Camelot Academy is Mastery-Based Learning. This approach enables all of ourstudents to reach their full potential while ensuring that no student moves on without mastering the key concepts needed for success.
We believe the common sense approach of mastery learning (pioneered by Dr. Benjamin Bloom) is the key to unlocking potential in all students. New material is introduced only after students demonstrate mastery of what has alreadybeen taught. Each student's knowledge base and learning style is "diagnosed" in each subject area. Every school yearbegins with a period of assessment which is closely followed by a staff retreat, during which the needs of each student are discussed and a plan is formulated to meet those needs. An individualized curriculum is then designed by the faculty tomeet the needs of a particular student, based on their test results, course of study requirements, classroom evaluation, and parental input.
Camelot Academy is a small, non-sectarian, independent, coeducational day school,which offers a college-preparatory curriculum and is open to all academically qualified students without regard to race,creed, color, sex, or national and ethnic origin.
