The Children's Center of Monmouth County offers educational services, training in adaptive living and pre-vocational skills for students with multiple disabilities or a diagnosis of autism and pervasive developmental delays.
The Children's Center provides each student with a functionally based academic curriculum, as dictated by the Individualized Educational Plan.
Included within a functional curriculum are the skills that are ultimately needed to successfully participate, to the fullest extent, in the community.
The staff utilizes a collaborative model for providing services. The related services therapists and teachers work together to develop and implement a student's individual education program.
In this joint effort, everyone involved with the student takes responsibility for all of the objectives selected.
This model allows for natural generalization of skills and hands-on training of all staff on specific strategies for promoting a student's best performance.
Additionally, individual sessions of related services can be provided for students based upon their IEP requirements.
The Children's Center also offers an extensive community integration program to foster the development of life skills.
These include shopping and the use of community resources, as well as training in the use of community recreational and leisure opportunities.
