My maiden name is Jo Ann Robert. I was a resident at Epworth when it was named Epworth School for Girls from 1964 to 1968 after completing one year of Junior college. I actually attended and graduated from Webster High. It was difficult growing up away from family and this wasn`t my first children's home, but my time at Epworth was truly beneficial. Our director, Mrs. Ferrel (I think) really advocated for us. We also went on "vagabond trips" and enjoyed experiences we otherwise wouldn`t have had. I learned to accept myself there, and because I was treated with respect and a person of worth, I began to learn to feel like a person of worth. I also subbed in Hanby Hall for a brief time as a young adult and was offered a full time positioning the early 70s, but it was too soon and too. Lose to home for me. Urgently I live in Anchorage, Am and have for many years. I have 5 adult children, one that I share a house with. I have earned a Bachelor a degree in Human Services and currently work for the State of Alaska as. Protective Service Specialist II. I have been employed by the State for going on 12 years next month. I've visited the Epworth campus about 3 years ago. It has changed a lot, but I was pleased to see the changes.I may not have realized it when I was younger, but to be transparent, the experience was very beneficial and enduring for me. Thank you to all those who made it so.
