About the School
- Minnetonka Montessori was formed at the Excelsior Congregational Church in 1963 by a group of local parents.
- In 1968, Nancy Tampoe arrived from Sri Lanka and was instrumental in promoting the true Montessori method at many of the Montessori schools in the area.
- She was trained directly by Maria Montessori and our current directress worked closely with Nancy for many years.
- Minnetonka Montessori continues to be a parent-run, non-profit, non-discriminatory organization.
- Classes still meet at the Congregational Church at 471 3rd Street in downtown Excelsior.
