Overview
Central Catholic was founded in 1956.聽For the past 45 years, we have been proud to serve the Grand Island area.
Central Catholic began as a four-year high school for grades 9-12.
Grades seven and eight were added later to form a junior-senior high school.
In 1997, a $1-million building expansion was completed and sixth grade was added to the school.
Today, Central Catholic consists of a middle school for grades 6-8 and a high school for grades 9-12.
Central Catholic is fully accredited by the Nebraska Department of Education and North Central Association of Colleges & Schools.
All members of the administrative and teaching staff are certified by the State of Nebraska.
Central Catholic is primarily a college preparatory institution.聽The school seeks to meet the needs of all students through a diversified curriculum.
At the middle school level, emphasis is placed on learning basic skills and exposing students to a wide variety of learning opportunities in a highly structured environment.
At the high school level, a broad range of courses are offered to meet the individual needs of students.
Religious instruction is an integral part of the curriculum for both middle school and high school students.
Grand Island Lutheran High, formerly Heartland Lutheran High School is a ministry of Christian education owned and operated by the Lutheran High School Association of Central Nebraska, Inc., an association of Lutheran Church Missouri Synod congregations.
GILH is operated in agreement and compliance with the doctrine and practice of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.
Our educational program is based on the teachings of the Bible as the inerrant Word of God and the faithful exposition of these teachings as outlined in the Lutheran confessions god is Triune one eternal God existing in three separate and distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe that Christian education applying God's Law and Gospel to all aspects of life and learning is a shared responsibility among the home, the church, and the school.
The Christian education of children is commanded by God and is the only way a child can develop to his or her full potential spiritually, socially, and academically.
We believe that this education is especially important during the high school years, when students face immense pressure to conform to a secular worldview.
As a result, GILH teaches all subjects from a Christian worldview, integrating the faith in all subjects.
Teachers also model Christ's love to their students. Through the Holy Spirit, Grand Island Lutheran High seeks to help students grow in their faith in Christ to become Christian leaders in an increasingly non-Christian world.
