About the School

  • San Juan Diego Catholic High School opened in 2002 after Archbishop Gregory Aymond recognized the need for Catholic college preparatory education in Austin.
  • Our students participate in the Corporate Internship Program (CIP), where they gain hands-on experience in entry-level positions across various sectors, including hospitals, universities, banks, law firms, and more, helping to fund part of their tuition.
  • Through the support of the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and the 21st Century Grant (CCLC), SJDCHS students can engage in a variety of extracurricular activities, including athletics, after-school clubs, and tutoring.
  • Additionally, parents can participate in programs such as our Conditioning Club.
  • As a faith community, we believe that a Catholic college preparatory education, paired with the Corporate Internship Program, fosters spiritual, intellectual, and professional growth in our students.
  • We deeply value our students, their families, and the rich diversity they bring to our school.
  • We are committed to shaping the hearts and minds of the future leaders we serve.

School Notes

  • Shortly after arriving in Austin in June 2000, Bishop Gregory Aymond sought to advance the Church's prophetic mission by increasing the number of Catholic school opportunities in Central Texas. He sought to make quality, Catholic, college-prepatory education available to young people who otherwise might not have access to it.
  • In August 2002, only weeks after the canonization of St. Juan Diego, the indigenous man to whom Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared, Bishop Aymond opened San Juan Diego Catholic High School. San Juan Diego is modeled after Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Chicago. Because of its academic excellence and innovative Corporate Work Study Program.

This is an excellent school, my son is a senior and we both love it. It has given him such a great experience and preparation for his college years and life! The teachers are awesome and really care and follow up with the students when they are struggling. They want to make sure they are given every opportunity to be successful. My favorite thing is the close knit community of the students.
