Notes for Prospective Students
All students must meet the following standards to be
enrolled. - Must be able to
communicate with people they don't know well, either verbally or
nonverbally, about their needs and respond to the needs of others.
(Speaking English is not necessary as long as the student can find
other ways to communicate.) - Must be responsible for
their own physical needs, such as eating, drinking and using the
bathroom. - Must be aware of their physical health such
that they can communicate any problems related to health or safety
to others. - Must show responsiveness to school
rules and the rights of other students and staff, such as the stop
rule and being able to accept consequences for breaking rules. It's
particularly important that you're able to listen to and respect
other students of all ages, and be responsive when they tell you
that you're doing something against the rules even if there's not
an adult in the room. - Must be able to spend most of
the day without direct oversight from adults. The staff is
always available to students, but do
not watch students. In the Sudbury world, we like to call
it instant availability without continuous presence.
