At St. Edmund鈥檚 Academy, we believe that summer should be a time of joyful exploration and discovery for early childhood and elementary school children. That鈥檚 why Summer at SEA, an enrichment day camp for children entering Pre-K through 5th Grade, seeks to cultivate children鈥檚 creativity and encourage their curiosity. Our balanced and engaging program blends the arts, physical activity, cognitive development, and experiential learning, inspiring your children to make the first month of their summer meaningful and memorable.
Summer at SEA focuses exclusively on the needs and interests of younger children. In spaces designed for them, taught by people trained to work with them, and supported by counselors who once were just like them, Summer at SEA understands what young children need during the first month of summer and our program offers that in ways unique to St. Edmund鈥檚 Academy.
We are a place where character counts, where kindness is expected, and where all are included. Most importantly, we know that for young children, the world can be a pretty big place. That鈥檚 why we keep our ratios low and our overall student total big enough for plenty of friends, but small enough that every child and family is personally known.
After care will be available for an additional fee from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.
SEA's six Core Values-respect for the needs and feelings of
others, honesty in relationships, responsibility for one's conduct,
high standards in all endeavors, service to others, and
appreciation of differences among people-are woven throughout
school life. They provide a shared foundation for a community that
brings together students and families from across the Pittsburgh
region and a wide range of racial, cultural, religious, and
socioeconomic backgrounds. Students learn that academic
achievement, personal integrity, and responsibility to others are
interconnected.
Small classes allow teachers to know students as individuals
and provide an appropriate balance of challenge and support.
Instruction is grounded in research-informed practice and designed
to help students become critical thinkers, precise communicators,
creative collaborators, and flexible problem-solvers. Students
build strong foundations in literacy, mathematics, science, social
studies, world languages, the arts, technology, and physical
education. As they advance through the school, they encounter
increasingly sophisticated coursework, including Latin, modern
language, Algebra I, and Geometry.
SEA's Preschool-through-8th-Grade structure allows each
developmental stage to receive focused attention. Young children
learn through purposeful play, exploration, relationships, and
frequent time outdoors. Lower School students develop essential
academic skills, independence, curiosity, and confidence. In Upper
School, students take on greater intellectual challenge and
increasing responsibility while remaining in an environment
designed specifically for early adolescents. Leadership
opportunities, athletics, performing and visual arts, service, and
community traditions help students discover their interests and
understand how they can contribute to a larger community.
The Preschool8 model also gives older students meaningful
opportunities to lead. Rather than entering the lower grades of a
high school, SEA's 8th Graders are the senior leaders of their
school community. Faculty guide students and families through an
individualized secondary-school selection process, and graduates go
on to a wide range of independent, public, parochial, boarding, and
specialized secondary schools. They leave SEA prepared not only for
demanding academic work, but also to approach new communities with
confidence, humility, curiosity, and integrity.
Belonging at SEA is both a defining quality of the community
and an essential part of the school's educational approach.
Teachers establish supportive relationships, maintain high
expectations, and help students learn to communicate and
collaborate across differences. Social-emotional learning, cultural
understanding, ethical reflection, and restorative approaches to
accountability help children develop the skills to participate
thoughtfully in a diverse and pluralistic world.
Students also learn beyond the traditional classroom.
Project-based learning, laboratory experiences, field trips,
overnight trips, service opportunities, outdoor learning,
performances, exhibitions, and athletic participation allow
students to apply their knowledge in meaningful contexts. SEA was
the first school in the region to adopt the United Nations
Sustainable Development Goals as a framework for helping students
understand and respond to real-world challenges.
St. Edmund's Academy welcomes families who value academic
