Something we didn''t fully appreciate until after our oldest son graduated was the academic rigor of St. Mary''s. He was accepted into Honors Programs at multiple private preparatory high schools and received generous merit scholarships. We learned this was a credit to St. Mary''s strong reputation. One admissions officer mentioned she had also gone to St. Mary''s. We routinely see fellow SMS alumni named on his high school''s Awards and Honor Rolls.St. Mary''s has high standardized test scores - even though faculty enjoy broad freedom to design their classroom experience and deliver curriculum as they choose. It''s the best of both worlds.We also came to appreciate the simple brilliance of the upper school integration - the teachers instruct across grades 6th-8th so they get to know your child over multiple school years as a team. When they write letters of recommendation, they''ve seen a 6th grader with late homework transform into a diligent 8th grader who can keep up with anything.
