The Lowell School is a New York State approved and accredited not-for-profit coeducational non-public day school whose mission is to provide a structured, supportive learning environment for learning disabled students from elementary through high school age. The elementary/middle school is located in Whitestone, New York and the high school is located in Flushing, New York.

Lowell`s elementary/middle School program follows the New York State curriculum guidelines at each grade level utilizing a multi-sensory approach to learning throughout all curricular areas. Modified materials and specialized instruction are used to establish and build the concepts required. Core subjects such as reading, mathematics, language arts, social studies and science are taught at each grade level. Smart Boards are utilized in each classroom to enhance instruction. We use a structured sequential writing program to develop writing skills at each grade level. iPads are available for each student in order to support our writing program. Art, music, family and consumer science, computer science and physical education are integral parts of the curriculum. Our program is enriched through field trips, on site professional presentations, multi media materials and interactive programs.The reading program is a significant part of The Lowell School. Students who demonstrate considerable weakness in reading are seen individually by our Reading Specialists to help develop the essential skills needed for independent reading. New students are assessed to determine the most effective reading methodology. Strategies are then formulated to address each student's specific learning style.The math program at The Lowell School uses an incremental multi-sensory approach to build math levels. Students who demonstrate significant math delays attend individualized or small group weekly remedial math sessions with our Math Specialist. In addition, the Math Specialist works with students who have above average grade level skills to provide enrichment.
